How to Choose a BBL Surgeon in Lagos Nigeria — What Nobody Tells You

I have worked inside the aesthetic and plastic surgery industry in Nigeria for over 10 years. I have seen what happens when women choose the wrong surgeon. I have also seen what proper surgery looks like when it is done right.

This is not a marketing article. This is what I would tell my sister before she booked her procedure.

1. Ignore Instagram — Look for Credentials

Every surgeon in Lagos has an Instagram page. Most of them post the same recycled results — some of which are not even their own work. Instagram is not evidence of skill. It is marketing.

What you should actually look for:

• American Board Certification in Plastic Surgery (ABPS) — this is the gold standard globally. It requires years of training, examinations, and peer review that Nigerian certifications do not match.
• Fellowship training — did the surgeon train under a recognised plastic surgery programme?
• Hospital or clinic accreditation — is the facility equipped to handle complications if they arise?

3. Ask How Many Procedures They Have Done

BBL and liposculpting are technical procedures. They require hundreds of repetitions before a surgeon develops the precision needed for natural, elegant results. Ask for a specific number. Not "thousands" — a number.

A surgeon with fewer than 500 BBL procedures is still learning the craft on your body.

Surgery does not end when you leave the operating room. A serious surgical team will have a structured post-operative care programme — compression garments, follow-up appointments, lymphatic massage recommendations, and clear guidance on what to avoid and when.

If a clinic cannot clearly explain their post-op protocol — they are not a serious clinic.
